Sohra Man Sentenced to Five Years for 2023 Stabbing

Shillong: A Sohra court sent Stephan Khongtim to prison for five years on August 27. Judge B Laitmon, the Additional DC for judicial matters, convicted him of attempted murder and causing grievous hurt. He faces a steep price for his violence.

The attack happened on February 24, 2023. Khongtim stabbed a man in the stomach. SI Habanjop Khonglah led the investigation and filed a charge sheet by April 2023. Justice moved forward.

Khongtim received five years and a Rs 20,000 fine for the attempted murder charge under Section 307. He also got two years and a Rs 5,000 fine for the Section 326 charge. He has already logged two years, five months, and 16 days in custody. He now faces two years, one month, and 20 days more to settle his debt to society.

Failure to pay the fines means more jail time. As the court noted, the sentence stands as a consequence for his actions.
