Shillong: A Meghalaya court sent a man to prison for the rest of his life. Banphrangkupar Nongbri will never see parole. The District and Sessions Judge in Nongstoin handed down the sentence on September 30. The conviction stems from the 2021 killings of a 79-year-old woman and her 25-year-old housemaid.
The crime scene stood silent in Nongstoin Village on August 24, 2021. The elderly victim's son arrived at the home to find the front door locked from the outside. He broke the lock at 10.20 am. He stepped inside. He found his mother dead in the dish-washing room. Police later discovered the housemaid's body tucked inside a bedroom.
Nongstoin police opened a probe under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Detectives eventually pinned the gruesome work on Nongbri. Officers filed a formal charge sheet under Section 302. The court found him guilty and ordered him to pay Rs 1 lakh for each victim. Judge E. Kharumnuid remarked during the sentencing process that the case involved the "murder of a 79-year-old woman and her 25-year-old housemaid." The ruling ensures Nongbri remains behind bars for the remainder of his natural life.
