Shillong: Ri Bhoi district officials cleared the skies for Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He visits Meghalaya on October 4 and 5. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abhishek Saini declared red and no-fly zones across the district to secure the VIP transit corridors. The move shuts down drones, paramotors, hang-gliders, and even toy aircraft.

Security measures cover a 5-km radius around Umroi Airport and all landing helipads. Meeting venues and inspection sites carry a 3-km restriction zone. Officials also locked down airspace 500 metres on either side of National Highway routes connecting Umroi, Umsning, and Nongpoh. The ban applies to everyone, from private citizens to media crews.

Restrictions take hold at 6 am on October 4. They expire at 10 pm on October 5 or when Shah leaves the district. Law enforcement or special protection units are the only groups allowed to fly. The administration warned that "unauthorised aerial devices detected within the restricted areas could be intercepted or seized."

Violators face potential prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023. Officials also cited the Aircraft Act of 1934 and Drone Rules of 2021. The Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police must now update the DigitalSky platform and deploy anti-drone gear to enforce the lockdown.
