Kohima: The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) hit back at contractors over the delayed two-lane NH-29 Package-II project in Kikruma. The group filed a Public Interest Litigation before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, to force action. They want the job finished by September 2026. Legal counsel Neiteo Koza and Associates represents the organization in court.
The project started in 2019. It missed its first deadline on June 30, 2022. Officials fired the first contractor for poor progress. They handed the work to Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd. but the CPO claims the new work is highly unsatisfactory. The group alleges the Project Monitoring Group already recommended firing the current firm, yet the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) refuses to act.
This road is a lifeline. It links Kohima to Phek, Meluri, and Kiphire. It is also the main route to the International Trade Centre at Avangkhu near the Indo-Myanmar border. Residents have no rail or air access. The CPO noted that the current state of the road causes immeasurable hardship and developmental loss. They are fed up with broken promises. The organization stated, "The people have endured this prolonged failure for far too long. The project must now be delivered, accountability must be ensured, and public interest must take precedence over all other considerations."
The CPO wants the Nagaland government to step in. They demand accountability for the delays. Work must pick up speed immediately. No more excuses are tolerated. The group insists the project needs a competent agency if the current one cannot deliver.
