Kohima: The Department of Social Welfare in Dimapur is forcing a complete transition to Aadhaar-seeded accounts. This mandate covers beneficiaries under the National Social Assistance Programme and several other state schemes. Recipients of IGNOAPS, IGNWPS, IGNDPS, SOAP, and Blind Pension must comply. The order also includes financial assistance, scholarship recipients, and disabled persons.
Beneficiaries must link their Aadhaar to their bank accounts. They have to submit the verified details to the District Welfare Office in Dimapur. The hard deadline is August 24, 2026. Officials claim the move aims for transparency and efficiency in benefit delivery. "The initiative was aimed at ensuring transparency and efficiency in the delivery of benefits, and urged beneficiaries to comply within the stipulated timeframe."
The department also issued a correction for an earlier report. The August 15 article regarding a reception for a Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee contained errors. The 2024 award recipient is Guru Veswuzo Phesao. Western Chakhesang Hoho president Yetshulhi Ngatsi was also misidentified in the original text.
