Shillong: Meghalaya officials met in Shillong on September 30 to ramp up Aadhaar enrollment numbers across the state. Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed chaired the State-Level Unique Identification Implementation Committee session. Attendance included UIDAI Deputy Director General Ngachan Zimik, UIDAI Director Lt. Col. Swapan Kumar Saxena, Commissioner Pravin Bakshi, and GAD Secretary Swapnil Tembe.
Zimik highlighted rising enrollment trends during the briefing. He noted an upward trend in Aadhaar enrolments, updates, and usage across Meghalaya. Despite the progress, the committee flagged specific gaps in reaching younger populations.
The state must prioritize children aged 0 to 5. Officials plan to use Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment at district hospitals and health centers. They will utilize Birth Registration Numbers for these sign-ups. The committee also ordered the School Education Department to launch special Mandatory Biometric Update drives at local schools to boost numbers in low-saturation districts.
The government is now moving toward digitizing state records. Plans include embedding QR codes into official documents to verify their authenticity. Officials want to expand Aadhaar-based authentication to streamline public services and curb fraud.
