Shillong: Ripnar Lyngdoh took the oath as Meghalaya State Chief Information Commissioner on November 5. Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar administered the ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Shillong. The room held senior officials including Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Secretary Isawanda Laloo.

Lyngdoh replaces former Chief Information Commissioner Rebecca V Suchiang. Her predecessor passed away in August this year. This appointment fills the sudden vacancy in the state office.

The official notification limits the term to two years. Lyngdoh stays until she turns 65 if that date hits sooner. The state government confirmed the appointment process following the official oath. "Lyngdoh will serve a two-year term from the date of assuming office or until she turns 65, whichever comes earlier," the notification stated.
