Shillong: Lawyers in Shillong are back on the job. The Shillong Bar Association and High Court Bar Association returned to work this Thursday. They ended a strike after meeting with government officials. The work stoppage ceased following talks with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Cabinet Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday.
SBA secretary TL Jyrwa confirmed the move. The government asked for one week to evaluate the lawyers' demands. Tynsong promised to meet with bar association members within that timeframe to discuss the situation. The state government also issued instructions to ensure the Advocate General and his team no longer represent the state in court proceedings for the time being.
TL Jyrwa left a clear warning for the administration regarding future actions. “Chinga Advocate General-ko ra·galchina dabie jingjengataha indiba sorkarini ku·rachakaniko man·ahani gimin antignina chingni jingjengataniko dontongchengna tik ka·aha. Sorkarini nipilani ja·manba Advocate general-ko ra·galja ong·ode chinga jingjengatanirangko dakangkuna draatako man·gen,” Jyrwa said. The lawyers will resume protests if the government refuses to remove the Advocate General after the review.
