Shillong: Central government pensioners are taking to the streets. The Forum of Central Government Pensioners (Civil) Association of Meghalaya plans a state-level demonstration in Shillong this Wednesday. The protest runs from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the CTO Building near the Chief General Manager Telecom Office.
Organizers expect at least 150 participants. They will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister via the CGMT office. This event marks a nationwide Call Attention Day. Association president JL Das and general secretary Bijon Dey said the demonstration aims to draw the Centre’s attention to these long-standing concerns and "urged all central pensioners in the state to join the protest."
The group seeks an 11-point charter of demands. They want the Old Pension Scheme restored for all public sector and government staff. They also demand the withdrawal of the Pension Rules Validation Act of 2025. Other goals include amending the 8th Central Pay Commission terms to guarantee automatic pension revisions and applying the DS Nakara judgment to link adjustments with every commission.
Financial grievances fill the list. The association wants a 50 per cent Dearness Allowance merger with pay and pensions. They also demand interim relief to counter 8th Pay Commission delays and the restoration of commuted pension portions after 10 years and eight months. The group is fighting for pension updates for BSNL, MTNL, and bank retirees, while pushing to include autonomous body pensioners under the Central Government Health Scheme.
