Shillong Pension Adalat Tackles Government Backlog

Shillong: The Office of the Accountant General in Shillong held a Pension Adalat this past Friday. They teamed up with the state Finance Pension Cell to clear a backlog of retirement files. The meeting focused on government offices across South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts. It worked. Officials brought pensioners, department heads, and disbursing officers together to verify records case by case.

Missing paperwork causes most delays. Employees often leave jobs without filing the correct forms during their years of service. Senior Deputy Accountant General Rupak Saha pushed for better teamwork between departments to fix the problem. He said, "Senior Deputy Accountant General Rupak Saha highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among authorities to ensure timely settlements."

Authorities now want all files submitted through the state e-Pension Portal. They are pressuring Drawing and Disbursing Officers to get up to speed with the digital system. The Accountant General’s office maintains an Open Window Initiative every Friday from 10 am to 1 pm. Pensioners can drop in during those hours to sort out grievances. Attendees praised the event as a rare win for transparency in Meghalaya state administration.
