Kohima: The Rongmei Pui Phwam Kohima marked its silver jubilee today at the NRDS Hall in Nagabazar, Kohima. Members gathered to celebrate 25 years of community service and solidarity. The group formed on July 18, 2001, to assist people struggling after the ceasefire-related conflict sparked by the Motor Peace Rally in Senapati, Manipur. Women in the Rongmei community recognized a lack of representation and organized to create a unified platform.
Chief guest Katasinliu Remmei, an associate professor at Kohima Science College, addressed the crowd. She urged women to maintain mutual care as the bedrock of a thriving society. Remmei also challenged parents to prioritize quality education and skill upgrades for their children. She told the attendees: "No organisation or union could progress without a shared commitment and a spirit of togetherness."
Joysi Rongmei, president of the Rongmei Mothers' Organisation Nagaland, traced the group's history from its 2001 origins. She noted that early members pooled their own resources and funds to help those in need. The event featured traditional dances and songs of praise. Advisor Losa Phimu Gangmei recounted the group's history, while president Sarah Kamei gave the welcome address. Chunjanglu Gracy chaired the program, which began with an invocation from Luchalu Kamei and ended with a vote of thanks from secretary Lily Longmei and a benediction by Gaisinmei Jennifer Ruangmei.
