Chen Area Union Kohima Marks 25 Years of Community Growth

Kohima: The Chen Area Union Kohima marked its silver jubilee on October 15 at State Academy Hall. The event gathered members under the banner of Resilience and Progress to celebrate a quarter-century of history. Originally established as the Tehokyin Union Kohima on May 12, 2001, the group started with 10 villages and 25 founding members. It rebranded to its current name on August 12, 2006, following the exit of Chaoha Chingnyu and Chaoha Chinglen. Y Thremsin and M Nockpai led the organization as its first president and general secretary.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister CL John hosted the gathering. He paid tribute to the pioneers who built the foundation for the community. In a written souvenir note, John stated: "Over the past 25 years, the Chen Area Union Kohima had made meaningful contribution towards the welfare, unity and progress of the Chen area community residing in Kohima and the Konyak community in general." The union now supports over 150 registered households and boasts thousands of members.

Special guest MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso urged the crowd to prioritize education and skill development for their children. He pushed members to adopt a forgiving attitude to resolve any lingering disputes. CAUK President Longngam Konyak echoed these sentiments, calling for excellence and confidence. Other speakers included Konyak Union Kohima president Khongjah Konyak, Y Thremsin, and Manhoi. Jublilee Planning Committee convenor Rebeka Walim delivered the welcome address. Rev M Nahngom performed the dedication of the souvenir, while cultural troupes from Chen-o Salim entertained the attendees. John Leipa and T. Phengna served as comperes.
