Three dead in Mizoram highway construction electrocution

Aizawl: Three workers died and three others suffered injuries after a fatal electrocution incident in Mizoram. The accident struck on Saturday at 1 pm near Sethawn in the Kolasib district. The victims were moving an electric pole at a highway construction site. A 16-year-old boy was among the dead.

Kolasib Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte confirmed the tragedy on Sunday, September 20. The laborers worked for a sub-contractor tasked with replacing poles damaged by the ongoing widening of National Highway 306. This road serves as the primary link between Mizoram and Assam. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd is running the project.

Emergency crews rushed the three survivors to a hospital for medical treatment. Details regarding their condition remain scarce. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific circumstances leading to the electrocution. "The incident occurred around 1 pm on Saturday at Sethawn near Kolasib," said Varte.
