Aizawl: Mizoram Education Minister Vanlalthlana wants the Centre to scrap one-size-fits-all education rules. Speaking at the North East Education Conclave 2026 in Nagaland's Chümoukedima district, he argued that national mandates fail to account for the region's rugged terrain and socio-economic gaps. The minister pushed for policies that reflect the local realities of the Northeast.
Mizoram faces a mounting list of obstacles. Enrollment in government schools is dropping. Rural areas lack enough secondary schools. DIETs and SCERTs operate with thin staff numbers. Poor internet access and shaky solar power support make the situation worse. Financial tight spots make it nearly impossible to hire new staff or build better classrooms. "A uniform policy approach may not adequately address the challenges faced by the region’s smaller and geographically diverse states," Vanlalthlana stated.
The minister wants federal support for Samagra Shiksha 3.0 and PM-USHA. He requested that future plans fit the specific lifestyles and cultural practices of Mizoram. The state is already moving forward on its own. It started a new assessment system for elementary students and uses the Vidya Samiksha Kendra to track performance. The project Intodelh remains a focus, aiming to teach kids financial literacy and entrepreneurship so they can build self-reliant futures.
