Aizawl: The Chakma Autonomous District Council will roll out the National Education Policy across its primary and middle schools starting in the 2027-28 academic year. Officials finalized the plan during a Sunday meeting at the Kamalanagar headquarters. Doymoy Daveng Chakma, the Executive Member in-charge of Education, chaired the session.
Students face new classroom routines. Every Wednesday becomes Mizo Speaking Day to boost language practice. Every Friday, schools will dedicate 10 minutes to Anapana meditation. Satish Chakma, head of the Primary Education Department, will lead the committee tasked with writing the guidelines for the language initiative.
The council also pushed forward a new staffing policy. It approved the draft Chakma Autonomous District Council (Transfer and Posting of Elementary School Teachers) Rules, 2026. A review committee led by Education Officer Punya Jagat Talukdar must finish work on these rules by October 10. Officials intend to present the final version to the executive committee soon.
The District School Education Board and local education departments will manage the setup for these changes. The council also plans to start a systematic literacy program, though the official noted that this effort remains "subject to approval by the executive committee and availability of funds."
