Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed his government is handing over 30 acres of land in Sekerkote for a new cricket academy. He revealed the move during the Tripura Cricket Association annual awards ceremony on Sunday. The facility will serve aspiring players from Tripura, the wider Northeast, and across the nation.
Saha wants more than just a field. He demanded high-quality coaching, professional support staff, and trained physiotherapists. He argued that these components are essential for real progress in the sport. The Chief Minister has deep ties to the organization. "I have also been the President of the Tripura Cricket Association, and since then, we have tried a lot to take it forward," Saha said.
The project aims to sharpen local skills while providing a destination for talent from other states. This initiative coincides with the nearing completion of an international-standard cricket stadium located in Narsingarh. Officials hope these assets will push local cricketers to compete on national and global stages.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy also attended the event. He pushed for better access for rural athletes and urged them to use modern technology to improve their game. He pointed to international success stories like Asmita Dey as evidence that clear goals and hard work pay off for Tripura's athletes.
