Kohima: Nagaland Civil Service probationers from the 2025 batch met with Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Munde this week. The meeting took place during the group's Bharat Darshan tour of Maharashtra. They discussed the state's approach to food safety enforcement, drug regulation, and agricultural oversight.
Munde walked the trainees through the complexities of pharmaceutical licensing, routine inspections, and the fight against counterfeit or substandard medicines. He also explained how the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority manages costs. The talk shifted to food safety, focusing on the nuts and bolts of sampling, licensing, and legal adjudication.
Beyond regulation, Munde addressed the broader headaches facing farmers, including the burden of rising labor costs and the struggle to reach agricultural support systems. He introduced the group to modern livestock tracking, the animal census, and dairy traceability. He spoke candidly about what makes a public servant effective. He said, "Good governance depended on building efficient systems that functioned with minimal intervention."
Leadership requires grit. Munde argued that administrators must prioritize personal integrity, physical inspections of institutions, and sharp legal competence. He told the probationers they need to embrace the principles of "unlearn, relearn and learn" to stay sharp. The session wrapped up with tips on managing finances, handling the media, and maintaining clear boundaries between public interest and individual gain.
