Patkai Christian College Marks World Philosophy Day

Kohima: Patkai Christian College held an early World Philosophy Day event in Chümoukedima on November 5. The Department of Philosophy hosted the session to explore how people can inhabit a world filled with plural challenges. Dr. Wojanbeni S. Yanthan, the program leader, opened the floor by stressing the need for critical thinking and honest self-reflection.

Students need better tools. Yanthan noted that UNESCO promotes deep philosophical reflection to help people address growing diversity. Third-year student Ngashikmi Zingkhai addressed the theme by calling for collective action despite varying opinions. He pushed the audience to move past ego and rigid stances. "Differences in perspective do not necessarily mean that one viewpoint is right and another is wrong," Zingkhai said.

Zingkhai urged his peers to think beyond their own circles. He proposed three steps: think beyond oneself, respect differences, and translate thoughts into action. The event kicked off with an invocation by Department Head Bendangnungsang.

Yanthan finished the program by offering five rules for a responsible society. She told the crowd that living together does not require uniformity. She warned that even well-intentioned actions need a cold, hard look. Her final point was simple: know the right path, then take responsibility for your corner of the world. Mhao Tungoe closed the event with a final prayer.
