Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav demanded that locals reclaim the narrative of the Northeast. He spoke at the valedictory session of the 3rd Dr PS Lorin Education and Media Conclave at Tetso College in Chümoukedima on November 5. He argued that outside observers often fail to capture the truth about local society.
Yadav wants accuracy. He told the crowd that local communities must tell their own stories with "accuracy, dignity and confidence." He praised the late Dr PS Lorin for building a legacy that fosters research and cultural harmony. The Governor noted that Nagaland thrives on oral traditions, music, and deep ties to the land.
Young people need new skills. Yadav pushed students to master media literacy, research, and digital tools to combat misinformation. He warned against the trap of sensationalism. In a close-knit state, accuracy matters more than speed. Media workers should document indigenous knowledge while holding institutions to account.
Phase One is over. Organizers confirmed Phase Two of the conclave will take place on January 15, 2027. This next session, titled Young Storytellers, Visual Media, and Global Storytelling, will feature Naga filmmaker Thejario. He directed Um, which won the Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
The event opened with an invocation by Pastor Yabang Longkumer of Covenant Baptist Church, Dimapur. Principal Dr Hewasa L Khing welcomed the guests. The Tetso College School of Music performed the anthem, and student Allayana Zekova R Marak performed a song.
