Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav challenged students to embrace excellence during the 32nd Spero Meliora. The event took place Saturday at the Kohima Village Multipurpose Building, Ziekezou. It centered on the theme: Break the Ice and Steal a March. Organizers from the Kohima Village Students Union and the Dolphin Club have maintained this literary showcase for over thirty years.
Yadav spoke on the necessity of independent thinking. He told the crowd that success relies on clear communication and adaptability in a shifting world. Literary contests foster these traits. They build confidence and sharpen critical thinking. He praised parents, teachers, and volunteers for their dedication to local youth.
Students competed in diverse categories including elocution, debate, quiz, and essay writing. They also participated in solo instrumental performances, spelling bees in English and Tenyidie, and creative arts. The Governor offered specific advice for the participants: "Remember, true success is measured not only by what you achieve but by the positive impact you make on others."
The event opened with an invocation by Rev Fr Innocent Panmei SDB, principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. Kekuolhouthie Dzuvichu of the Dolphin Club handled the welcome address. Pfuchazhunuo provided a special song. Comperes for the day were Vidilhou Vincent Yhome and Dziesebeinuo Kire. Khriesaneikuo Kire, president of the Kohima Village Students Union, delivered the vote of thanks.
Yadav tied the event motto, meaning I hope for better things, to student aspirations. He cited Swami Vivekananda to push attendees toward their goals. Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached. Neitho-o Kuotsu, Joint Director of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, served as the Guest of Honour during the valedictory program.
