KSU Protests Appointment of Non-Khasi Education Officer in Mawkyrwat

Shillong: The Khasi Students Union in Mawkyrwat is fighting a government transfer. Officials moved Dhananjay Upadhya, the Resubelpara SDSEO, to the Mawkyrwat office on November 3. The union wants a local leader in the seat. This move ignores regional needs.

Rutherford Lyngdoh, president of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle, claims the district requires an officer who knows the Khasi language and local customs. He argues that an outsider lacks the perspective to handle school hurdles or coordinate with traditional institutions. The union insists a qualified Khasi officer must take the job.

“The union firmly demands that the post of SDSEO be considered for a qualified Khasi officer who is familiar with the local conditions and educational hurdles of the area,” Lyngdoh said. KSU leaders have asked the state government to reverse the decision immediately. They promise to launch democratic protests if the state refuses to prioritize a local candidate.
