Shillong: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) plans to hit the streets on September 25. They will march from the Meghalaya Board of School Education office to Madan Malki. The rally follows the government ignoring a meeting request with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma sent on September 1. Association members feel they have no other choice.
KJDSTA president Boswell S. Pala said, "We submitted a letter to the chief minister on September 1 seeking an appointment, but there has been no response even after three weeks." The group wants immediate action on their long-pending list of grievances.
Teachers are pushing for the implementation of the Contributory Provident Fund and National Pension System. They also demand the release of 51% and 53% Dearness Allowance, plus 43% in arrears. Other requirements include a 10% CPF contribution, filling vacant posts, and regularizing salaries. They also want to kill the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme, 2026. The group is demanding the restoration of the Board of Trustees and the implementation of the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme.
The protest follows a September 17 government notification that withdrew an earlier August 12 directive. While the association welcomed this move, Pala remains wary of vague language in the latest update. He insists that every clause from the previous order must go. Any threat to the system will bring them back into the streets. Pala called on all staff, retirees, and supporters to join the demonstration.
