Shillong: Teachers and staff from deficit schools across Meghalaya are hitting the streets. The Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) plans a mass rally in Shillong on Friday, September 25. They have had enough of the government ignoring their demands.
The association wants immediate action on several fronts. They are calling for a 53 percent hike in Dearness Allowance. Workers also want the government to scrap the Structured Pay Framework introduced by the Education Department and return to the old pay structure. They expect regular, timely salary payments.
Staff shortages remain a major headache. The GHDSTEA demands that the state government fill all vacant sanctioned positions in deficit schools immediately. “Ia skulrango bangbang ong·e dongenggipa kamrangko gapatchipgija donengani a·selan skulrangko chalaianio aro skigiparangni kamrango neng·nikanirangko chagrongna nangenga,” the association stated. They also pushed for the swift release of Contributory Provident Fund benefits, specifically for retired and retiring staff members.
