Cachar Home Burgled During Durga Puja Saptami

Guwahati: Thieves targeted a home in Dighar Phulertol Part I on October 17. The burglary occurred on Saptami evening near Chiripul, within the jurisdiction of the Lakhipur police station in Assam. Nityaranjan Das, the homeowner, discovered the crime after returning from a nearby Durga Puja pandal.

The family found their property ransacked upon arrival. Thieves forced their way through a kitchen ventilator to access the interior. Once inside, they broke open a cupboard to snatch gold jewellery and cash. The haul was gone. Lakhipur police arrived at the scene to begin an investigation, though no arrests have been made.

Locals claim these crimes happen every year during the festival season. Residents are now demanding better security. The victimized family specifically asked Minister Kaushik Rai and the Lakhipur police to take action to stop these incidents. One local resident noted that “thefts recur in the area during Durga Puja.” Authorities remain on the lookout for the culprits.
