Manipur Police Arrest Two Men For Fatal Machete Attack In Imphal

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested two men for the murder of an Assam resident in Imphal. The attack occurred Monday night, September 7, outside the Axis Bank in Thangal Bazar. The victim lived in Borojalenga village near Silchar, Assam.

Police identified the suspects as 60-year-old Yendrembam Paona Singh and 39-year-old Laishram Ngongo Meitei. Both men live in Kanglasiphai Makha Leikai. Investigators filed an FIR at the City Police Station after the victim was killed by a machete strike to his neck.

Paona Singh confessed to the crime. He told officers the killing was an act of revenge following a fallout with the victim over alleged dealings involving contraband ganja. Singh and Meitei rode a two-wheeler to the scene with the intent to commit the murder. Police have since recovered the vehicle used in the assault.

Officers seized blood-stained clothes worn by Singh during the attack. The weapon remains missing. Investigators say that "further investigation into the case is underway." Police are still working to locate the machete.

Records now confirm the two suspects reside in the Imphal East district. Authorities also noted the victim was not just passing through the area but had been staying in Thangal Bazar leading up to the attack.
