Police recover live grenade from Imphal fish trader's home

Imphal: A suspected Chinese-made hand grenade landed at the gate of Haobam Rakesh early today. Rakesh, a 40-year-old fish trader, lives on FCI Road in Samgaiprou Mamang Leikai. He runs a local fish shop. The device sat idle on the pavement. No one suffered injuries during the incident.

Lamphel police arrived with the Bomb Disposal Squad at 6:10 am to secure the scene. Experts discovered the safety lever lying nearby. This proved someone tried to trigger the blast, but the device failed to detonate. The team removed the grenade and hauled it to a dumping site in Lamphel.

"The device failed to detonate," police sources said. Authorities destroyed the grenade at 1 pm. Investigators are now working to identify the culprits and the motive behind the threat.
