Imphal: Law enforcement agents dismantled an inter-state human trafficking ring stretching from Manipur to New Delhi. Officers arrested 27-year-old Ningombam Ronaldo in Ghitorni, New Delhi, on September 16. A magistrate in Imphal East remanded Ronaldo to police custody until September 21. His arrest follows a September 9 complaint filed at the Imphal East Women Police Station involving six young women from Keibi.
Authorities raided a home in Keibi Kumuda Leikai on September 10. They rescued an 18-year-old woman during the operation. Police also arrested two accomplices, Chandam Tababi and Khumanthem Nanao, that day. These arrests stopped the planned transport of two more victims to the capital. The three co-accused remain in a 10-day remand, while the rescued woman sits in the care of the One Stop Centre in Porompat.
Interrogations pointed to a local salon owner named Gaitri. She allegedly recruited women using fake promises of jobs in hospitality and beauty parlors. The victims worked for an absconding kingpin identified as Bony. The prosecution stated: "The syndicate lured victims with false job promises before confining them in Delhi hotels for sexual exploitation."
Investigators believe the network trafficked four to five women to Delhi already. Officials claim Ronaldo harbored these victims and took financial kickbacks from Bony. Police continue to hold Ronaldo to help track down the primary kingpin.
