Guwahati: Guwahati police and Central Reserve Police Force troops are blanketing the city with checkpoints. The 80th Independence Day is near. Authorities started round-the-clock security sweeps to lock down the area before the August 15 celebrations.
Police are stopping two-wheelers and four-wheelers at key junctions across the capital. Night-time naka operations are now in full swing at Maligaon, Khanapara, Jalukbari, and the area surrounding Gauhati High Court. Teams monitor all vehicle movement to keep the city safe.
Officers are actively ticketing motorists and detaining rule breakers found during these sweeps. Security teams intend to keep the pressure high across the city until the holiday ends. As local officials stated, the force is "conducting night-time naka checking at multiple points across the city" to ensure public safety.
