Dimapur Police Ban Drones for Independence Day

Kohima: Dimapur police declared a strict no-fly zone for drones and remotely piloted aircraft this Independence Day. Commissioner Aotula T Imchen issued the order to cover a two-kilometre radius around key public venues. The restriction applies to the Dimapur DDSC Stadium, Chümoukedima Samaguting Stadium, and the Niuland Public Ground.

The ban starts at 2 am and runs until 6 pm on August 15, 2026. Officials cited security exigencies for the move. Rule 24 of the Drone Rules, 2021, mandates this clearance. No one can fly a craft in these zones without prior official permission.

The commissioner acknowledged the sudden nature of the ruling. The order was passed ex-parte because "it was not possible to serve individual notices to all concerned." Police will notify the public via press releases and physical notices posted at police stations throughout the commissionerate.
