Police Seize Pistol and Ammo in Assam Ahead of Independence Day

Guwahati: Rupohihat police caught two men carrying a loaded pistol in Assam’s Nagaon district. Officers intercepted Faizuddin and Rafiqul Islam during a targeted operation. The team recovered one pistol and three live rounds of ammunition from the pair. Intelligence reports suggested the men were traveling through multiple areas in Rupohihat with the weapon.

Security remains high. Independence Day is approaching fast. Police are now pressing their investigation to find where the weapon originated and why the suspects carried it. Authorities expressed alarm regarding the timing of the find, noting, "The arrests ahead of Independence Day have triggered concern in the area." The investigation continues as officers dig into the suspects' motives.

In a separate operation in Sribhumi district, police raided a mobile accessories shop and took a local youth, Nasel Ahmed, into custody. Officers recovered 15 live rounds of 7.5 mm pistol ammunition during the search. Investigators are now tracking where the ammo came from and if Ahmed is tied to a larger criminal network.
