Guwahati: Juria Police arrested five suspected cattle thieves in Assam’s Nagaon district. The arrests followed a raid in the Western Sonai Berat area on the night of September 25. Officers apprehended the group after they arrived in an unregistered four-wheeler.
The suspects include Omar Faruk, Abdul Faruk, Amir Hamza, Jahur Uddin, and Mohammad Ali. All five men live in Hatipara in Rupohihat. Police claim the gang used luxury vehicles to evade detection during a long string of thefts across Juria. The operation began after local residents filed numerous complaints regarding stolen livestock.
Officer-in-Charge Ajay Barman directed the intensive operation, with SI Dhanmoni Saikia of the Dagaon Police Outpost leading the field team. Authorities seized the unregistered vehicle at the scene. Police questioned the men before moving them to jail.
"The investigation is underway," said police officials. A magistrate sent the group to judicial custody on September 26.
