Guwahati: Flood conditions in Assam improved on Monday. The state disaster management systems confirm that 128,071 people remain hit by the rising waters. The total death toll for the season reached 87. No new fatalities occurred in the most recent update.
Waters impact 380 villages across 24 revenue circles. The affected districts include Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur. Sivasagar carries the heaviest burden with 55,200 people struggling. Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat, and Dhemaji follow in severity. Smaller counts exist in Lakhimpur and Biswanath.
Agricultural losses span 14,230.15 hectares of land. Charaideo reports the most significant crop damage. Sivasagar, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Biswanath also face heavy losses. The Dhansiri River at Numaligarh flows above danger levels. No rivers currently exceed their highest flood marks.
Officials operate 55 relief camps and 17 distribution centers. These sites shelter 11,066 displaced individuals. The population inside includes 4,835 men, 4,738 women, and 1,462 children. The centers also house 24 pregnant or lactating mothers and seven persons with disabilities. Sivasagar hosts the highest concentration of camp residents. Officials continue to distribute food, water, and medicine.
The Central Government approved an advance release of 2,117.85 crore rupees for seven states under the State Disaster Response Fund. Assam received 379.35 crore rupees as the first installment. An official bulletin stated: "District administrations remain engaged in relief distribution, rehabilitation measures and damage assessment while closely monitoring the overall flood situation in the affected areas."
