Guwahati: Heavy rains pushed Assam into a desperate state by July 15. The death toll climbed to four after recovery crews found a body in the Chariduar Revenue Circle. The victim went missing on the night of July 13 and officials confirmed the discovery on July 14. Another fatality occurred in the Naduar revenue circle during the same 24-hour window.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reports that the number of affected residents jumped to 37,032. This marks a sharp rise from earlier in the week. Lakhimpur remains the hardest hit area with 35,696 people reeling from the deluge. The water has submerged 1,103.94 hectares of farmland.

Flooding currently impacts 99 villages across 12 revenue circles. Six districts are under pressure: Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat, and Sivasagar. The Katakhal River is currently flowing above the danger level. Infrastructure damage is mounting across the region.

The State Disaster Response Force rescued 16 people in Sonitpur. Authorities set up 20 distribution centers to handle the crisis. "Relief materials are being distributed through 20 relief distribution centres set up across the affected areas," the ASDMA said. The flood impact extends to livestock, with 16,139 animals and poultry caught in the path of the rising water. Two animals were lost to the currents.
