Agartala: A mob beat 45-year-old Jalil Rahaman to death early Wednesday in Tripura. The attack occurred in the Bagber area of Khowai district around 4.45 am. Rahaman, a resident of Gilatali, was walking home with two cows he had bought when the group cornered him. The locals suspected he was a cattle thief because he was moving livestock at an odd hour.
Police arrived at the scene after getting a call. Officers rushed Rahaman to a local health centre, but he died before arrival. Kalyanpur police station officer-in-charge Asish Sarkar said, "After being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot, rescued him and took him to a health centre, where he was declared brought dead."
Investigators confirmed Rahaman had no criminal record at the local station. Police want to file a suo motu case, but they are holding off until the family files a formal complaint. Officers are currently waiting for that paperwork before they make any arrests or escalate the investigation.
