Tripura Court Hands Down 10-Year Sentence in 30-kg Ganja Bust

Agartala: A Special NDPS Court in Belonia sentenced Keshab Lal Das to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The judge also fined the Radhanagar resident Rs 1 lakh. If Das fails to pay, he faces another six months behind bars. Police caught the man with 29.6 kilograms of dry ganja.

Sub-Inspector Niren Debbarma discovered the stash on April 11, 2025. The officer was conducting a routine night patrol near Jhawar Tila. P.R. Bari police filed Case No. 15/2025 the following day under the NDPS Act. Sub-Inspector Sujit Sarkar led the investigation, while Shishu Kumar Debbarma filed the chargesheet just 54 days later.

The trial moved fast. It started on July 2, 2025, and wrapped up within 13 months. On August 28, 2026, the Special Judge found Das guilty under Section 20(b)(ii)(C). South Tripura District Police celebrated the ruling as a win for law enforcement. They stated the conviction reflects their "continued efforts to enforce the NDPS Act and combat drug trafficking through sustained enforcement, timely investigation and effective prosecution."
