Kohima: The Nagaland government locked in a 25-year power purchase agreement with Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd on August 20. Officials gathered at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall in Kohima to sign the deal. This marks the state's first private solar independent power producer initiative. The 20 MW plant will rise at Lapa Lampong village in Tizit, Mon district. It needs to be ready within 20 months.

The grid will receive power at a fixed rate of ₹4.12 per unit. This price earned approval from the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission. Chief Engineer Nitovi A. Wotsa noted that current peak demand hits 203 MW. It should climb to 482 MW by 2034-35. The state is scrambling to grow local capacity to close this gap.

The facility will pump out 35 million units of electricity every year. It should stop 25,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Officials expect the plant to cut the state's reliance on outside power. The Principal Secretary for Power pushed the developer to finish early and hire local workers. Tvaksas Renewable director Bhakti Dave stated, "The project would create new avenues for local employment and youth opportunities while encouraging further investment in the state."

The developer plans to eventually scale the program to 100 MW. Directors Hardik Dave and Nayaan Ratandhayara confirmed they will work with the Department of Power on long-term maintenance. This project supports India's push to hit 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
