Dimapur Consumer Rights Seminar Targets Fair Trade Practices

Kohima: Legal experts and state officials met at Kohima College on August 18 for an awareness program titled Safe Products, Confident Consumer. The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection teamed up with the college economics and commerce departments for the event. The goal was simple. Educate the public on rights and trade standards.

Advocate and Kohima District Legal Services Authority panel lawyer Sunjib Rana told the crowd that consumer protection extends well beyond basic retail transactions. He argued the law encompasses the entire economy and broad development. Consumers maintain the right to select products freely. If a buyer faces poor service or unfair trade tactics, the consumer court remains open for business.

Assistant controller Shiekhozo delivered the keynote address. He explained that his department enforces strict rules to ensure accurate weights and honest trade. State officials keep a close watch on the markets to stop predatory behavior. "We enforce the Acts and Rules. We protect the economy", Shiekhozo stated during the session. The department remains firm on banning all unfair commercial practices across the region.
