Kohima: The Department of Commerce at Kohima College marked ten years of operation on October 9. They celebrated under the theme Celebrating a Decade of Growth and Progress. Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru took the stage to launch the Student-preneur Incubation Initiative. The program provides students with mentoring, business guidance, and incubation support to turn raw ideas into real ventures.
Biswajit Sarkar, an associate professor at Dimapur Government College, delivered the keynote address. Sarkar served as the inaugural head of the Kohima College commerce department when it opened back in 2016. He challenged the students to use this milestone to build for the future. He told the crowd, "Sarkar encouraged students to use the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the department's journey, assess their achievements and challenges, and renew their commitment to future growth."
Students competed in business proposal and quiz contests throughout the day. These events forced participants to show off their intellectual abilities and sharp business acumen. The department remains dedicated to academic growth and innovation. This new initiative locks in their focus on training the next generation of local entrepreneurs.
