Kohima: Kohima College hosted 779 incoming students on Saturday during its 57th annual Freshers Day. The event took place in the college courtyard under the banner of New Beginnings, Endless Possibilities. Kekhrievor Dzuvichu chaired the program, which started with an invocation from Students Christian Fellowship President Liyani Lotha.
Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru urged the new class to utilize campus facilities. He pushed them to become responsible citizens. Chief guest Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education, challenged the students to embrace adaptability and systems thinking. He noted that government jobs remain scarce. He told the crowd, "Explore entrepreneurship and career opportunities beyond the state."
The event inducted the 2026-27 Kohima College Students Council executive team. Medoseno Thapo, Secretary of the Student Welfare Committee, oversaw the induction. Outgoing General Secretary Yeshika Achumi delivered the annual report before handing over duties to incoming General Secretary Wati Lkr. Wati Lkr promised to serve with humility and accountability.
The day featured performances by Ketouzo Sopfunuo of the Tenyidie Department. Semurayi Swuro of the Education Department spoke for the freshers. Judges crowned Kesanelie from Political Science as Mr. Freshers and Lochumlo from History as Miss Freshers. The day ended with a vote of thanks, benediction, and refreshments.
