Kohima: Kohima College celebrated its 59th Foundation Day on August 8. The ceremony took place in the college courtyard. Dr. Watijungshi Jamir, retired additional director of higher education and former principal, attended as the special guest. Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru delivered the welcome address. Dr. Medongulie Tseikhanuo chaired the program, which featured a prayer, the college anthem, and a musical performance by the students' union.
Dr. Jamir recalled the early days of the institution. He noted the college rose from the conviction of its founders rather than a standard blueprint. "The institution, built on a shared vision, has consistently contributed to society by shaping generations of students," Jamir said. He urged freshers to maintain this standard.
The event highlighted significant academic successes. Manyei Konyak earned the Commerce Department's Outstanding Student Award 2026. Shukiu T took the History Department top spot. Vetazo Veswuh claimed the UG Meritorious Award 2026 for the highest sixth-semester score. Hengwale Kent, an M.A. Political Science student, secured Nagaland University Rank 1 with an 8.81 CGPA, winning the Kohima College Academic Excellence Award and Rs 30,000. Viketuno Tsukru secured Nagaland University Rank 2.
IQAC Academic Achievement Awards of Rs 5,000 went to Liiline Vemai, Ajano W. Kikon, Viketuno Tsukru, Pajei K, Shongmo K, and Siaga Lungalang. Liiline Vemai also received the Alumni Meritorious Award 2025 and Rs 10,000 for her Rank 4 finish. Keneivotuo Kesiezie of the Economics Department won the Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award, which included Rs 30,000.
Faculty members Dr. Konei Nakhro, Dr. Petevino Chase, Dr. Kekhrieseno Christina, and Dr. Thoshusie Katiry earned recognition for their journal publications. Finally, Sonika Rathu of the History Department received a consolation prize of Rs 3,000 for her performance in the NPSC Mentors-2.0 Inkspire Essay Competition 2026.
