Kohima: A Nagaland delegation pushed for National Highway status for the Wokha-Hanimi road in New Delhi on August 20. Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton met Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh to secure federal backing for the project. Advisors Mhathung Yanthan and Achumbemo Kikon joined the meeting alongside MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe. The road upgrade is a priority.

The state cabinet greenlit the 70-km project during an August 6 meeting at Doyang. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio chaired that session. The route stretches from Zero Point in Wokha to Yankeli village. It cuts through the Lotha-inhabited region. Locals expect the road to provide a faster link to Dimapur.

Dr. Singh promised to review the request and provide support for the designation. Patton praised the meeting on social media. He stated, "The delegation had a constructive discussion with the Union minister on key development priorities." The MLAs also thanked Rio for pushing the initial cabinet approval forward.
