Kohima: Member of Parliament S. Supongmeren Jamir visited the Central Institute of Horticulture in Medziphema on Thursday. He met with staff to audit the facility's operations. The site falls under the Union Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Growth remains stagnant. The institute currently operates with only 17 sanctioned posts. Officials originally proposed 48 positions. Only five roles hold permanent status, including the director.

Jamir addressed the long-standing legal battle involving 12 employees hired in 2006. These workers remain in limbo while their case crawls through the courts. The MP promised to press the Ministry for a resolution. He wants the institute to boost local employment. He urged leadership to increase commitment and better promote institutional achievements.

The facility must prioritize cooperation. Jamir warned that the institute needs to build trust with the village community and local youth. Workers deserve dignity. He also flagged ongoing land encroachment issues. Staff must coordinate with local administration to protect the site boundaries. He stated, "CIH, being a significant Central Government institution, should be strengthened to benefit the people of Nagaland and the wider North-Eastern Region." Jamir envisions the center driving technological progress and farmer training across the North-East.
