Kohima: Nagaland tax officials hit the streets of Dimapur this week. The State Taxes Department spent July 13 and 14 inspecting business establishments across the district. A team led by the Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes carried out the work. They acted under the authority of Section 67 of the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.

Officers verified business activities and registration details. They checked stock and reviewed the issuance of GST bills. Most vendors followed the law. However, officials found some errors. The department stated that the discrepancies detected in some establishments would be examined further in accordance with the provisions of the NGST Act, 2017. Inspectors also used the time to talk with owners about tax questions.

The agency wants better tax records. They told traders to maintain proper books of accounts. They also reminded shoppers to ask for a GST bill with every buy. Officials claim these invoices stop tax evasion and help the state grow. This operation follows a similar push in Kohima. Similar inspections also took place on June 17 and 18. The department says these raids will keep happening across the state.
