Kohima: Five unidentified individuals tore through the Santsuphen village home of Mhao Yanthan around midnight on August 27. Yanthan serves as the Nagaland Youth President for the Janata Dal (United). The mob vandalized the property and stole valuables in a late-night raid.
The JDU slammed the attack as a cowardly act. The party issued a statement saying, "Such reckless acts of vandalism, theft and destruction have no place in a civilised society that upholds the rule of law, peace, democratic values and mutual respect." They maintain that violence against a political leader signals a broader failure in public order and citizen safety.
The party demands a swift, impartial investigation by law enforcement. They want the culprits identified and prosecuted under the law. JDU officials urged the public to stay calm while calling for stronger security measures to protect political leaders and residents alike. They insist that all democratic disagreements require peaceful resolution rather than property destruction.
