Kohima: A 53-year-old man is dead after a clash with his son in Lakhuti village. The incident occurred on July 31 under the jurisdiction of the Sanis Police Station. Police took 28-year-old Yanpothung Yanthan into custody following the death of his father, Nongothung Yanthan.
Trouble started around 7:00 pm. A family dispute turned violent when the elder Yanthan allegedly chased a relative with a machete. The son moved to disarm his father. They scuffled. The father hit the ground hard. Because the man had been drinking, the family assumed he would wake up. They realized he was unresponsive after 15 minutes and discovered a head wound.
A village official noted the victim fell and struck his head on a rock. The suspect waited at the scene for police. Additional Superintendent of Police Biren Lotha confirmed the station received the report at 8:30 pm. "Based on the preliminary investigation, police suspect the case may amount to culpable homicide, though the exact circumstances and appropriate legal provisions will be determined as the investigation progresses," Lotha said.
Authorities registered a suo motu case. The investigation is ongoing. Police released the body to the family after completing all legal formalities.
