Kohima: Dimapur police arrested 62-year-old Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani on September 5 for running a job scam. He promised a victim overseas work in Luxembourg while posing as a senior official. Dimapur East Police took the man into custody under FIR number 191/26. He faces charges for cheating, impersonation, and criminal intimidation under sections 318(4), 319(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The con started on January 15, 2026. Ramnani collected 1,50,000 rupees as job processing fees. He claimed to be the District President of the Dimapur East Nagaland Anti-Corruption organization. To keep the victim paying, he issued a fake certificate from a company called Mama Shelter Luxembourg. He later demanded another 1,00,000 rupees to finish the deal.
Police found a fake ID card during the arrest. It claimed he was the Nagaland State Director of the Central Bureau of Intelligence. The agency is actually the Central Bureau of Investigation. Officers warned the public about his methods. The Deputy Commissioner of Police stated, "Dimapur Police have appealed to any other citizens who may have been duped, approached, or have information regarding Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani to immediately contact the East Police Station, Dimapur, at 7085055020."
