Imphal: The Manipuri Students Federation marked its 28th Foundation Day at its headquarters in Kwakeithel Thounajam Leikai. Members gathered to honor the group's history and pay tribute to deceased contributors. They also ran a voluntary blood donation camp for the community.
Key figures attended the event including Soraisam Mercha Leima of Pairei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and AMUCO president Sorukhaibam Sanjay. Other notable guests included Dr. Lamabam Mahendra from the Thounaojam Leikai Development Association, Council of Higher Secondary Education secretary Khundrakpam Ashikumar, Manipur Millennium Foundation administrator Moirangthem Binod Meitei, and R.B. Academy chairman Kh. Ratankumar. MSF president Hijam Roshan presided over the ceremony.
Roshan criticized the state for failing to protect the local language. He specifically pointed to recruitment gaps for language teachers in schools and colleges. He argued that the Manipur Official Language Act, 1979, lacks real enforcement. "The failure to implement the law properly undermined efforts to strengthen the language and ensure its continued use among younger generations," Roshan said.
The federation demanded better institutional commitment to Manipuri language and cultural identity. They want the government to move past formal recognition and act. The group claims current official indifference threatens the future of the state's culture.
