Kiphire Health Officials Push HPV Vaccine for Girls

Kohima: Health officials in Kiphire gathered at the District Hospital on Monday to ramp up the local HPV vaccination campaign. The workshop brought together over 50 people, including school representatives, faith leaders, women’s associations, and local administrators. The goal is to reach all 14-year-old girls in the district with a single-dose shot that prevents cervical cancer.

District Immunisation Officer Dr. Yelo T. Mero opened the floor with a clear mandate. He said, "The single-dose HPV vaccine was safe, available free of cost and accessible at government health facilities across the district." Mero demanded that stakeholders stop eligible girls from falling through the cracks. He also noted that parental consent remains the backbone of the campaign.

Dr. C. Kezo, Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, backed the initiative and urged families to act now. The vaccine is free at all government facilities. Officials spent the session mapping out ways to talk to parents and crush myths surrounding the shot. Anyone seeking details should check in with their local Accredited Social Health Activist or visit a health center.
