Shillong: The North Garo Hills Health and Family Welfare Department started its national HPV vaccination campaign on Thursday. Officials chose Bangsi A·pal Higher Secondary School to kick off the initiative. The District Health Society under the National Health Mission in Dainadubi organized the event.
Dr. Yourita R. Sangma addressed the attendees to explain why 14-year-olds need the HPV vaccine. She detailed the safety profile of the shot and the long-term health benefits for recipients. "Ia tikako su·e ra·anichi cervical cancer-oniko chel·chake rakkina man·a," Sangma stated during the presentation. She urged all eligible students to get vaccinated to prevent cervical cancer.
Principal Jerimia Sangma attended the event alongside school staff. Educators and community members supported the campaign launch. The program seeks to increase immunization coverage across the district.
