Kohima: Wokha kicked off a two-wheeler taxi service on October 9 with 20 riders hitting the streets. To celebrate the start, the taxi crews offered free rides to the public throughout the entire day.
Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao attended the launch alongside town council representatives and the Additional Deputy Commissioner. Tsanglao demanded that drivers put passenger safety first. He told the riders: "Prioritise passenger safety, maintain cordial relations with commuters and strictly follow traffic regulations." The official also warned the crew against overspeeding on the job.
The service will cover five specific locations across town. Riders will wait at the Police Point, NST, SP Office, Niropen Colony, and the Civil Hospital Wokha. Locals can flag down drivers at these parking spots or book a trip over the phone.
Tsanglao noted that similar setups in other districts help both the passengers and the workers. He expects this project to offer a reliable income for the 20 riders while making travel faster for residents. Interim body president Chumben Yanthan confirmed that drivers must stay within their assigned zones and follow all operational rules. The group expects the riders to coordinate their schedules to keep the fleet running efficiently.
